Men ask me all the time. “Where should I take her?”

It’s the wrong question. The place matters less than you think. What matters is the planning. Here’s how to plan a date she’ll actually remember.

1. Use something she told you

This is the secret. It’s the whole thing, really.

She mentioned a restaurant she’s always wanted to try. A band she loves. A neighborhood she’s never explored. A food she misses from home.

Build the date around it.

When she realizes you remembered, she’ll feel something no fancy restaurant could give her. She’ll feel heard.

2. Make a plan, then tell her the plan

Women tell me constantly: they’re tired of “wyd” and “wanna hang out sometime?”

Be specific. “I’d like to take you to that ramen place you mentioned. Saturday at 7? I’ll pick you up.”

A specific plan says: I thought about this. I want to see you. I’m willing to be responsible for making it happen.

3. Have a second stop

Dinner is fine. Dinner followed by a walk to see the sunset, or dessert somewhere else, or a drink at a jazz club, is a date.

The second stop is where the real conversation happens. You’ve both relaxed. The first-date nerves are gone. You’re walking side by side instead of sitting across a table.

4. Handle the logistics

Know where you’re parking. Know if the place needs a reservation. Know if there’s a line. Have a backup if it’s closed.

She shouldn’t have to think about any of it. That’s part of the gift.

5. Pay attention while you’re there

Put your phone away. Not face down on the table. Away.

Ask her questions. Listen to the answers. Remember something she says, and bring it up on the next date.

6. End it well

Walk her to her door, or her car. Tell her you had a great time, if you did. Text her when you get home.

Don’t leave her wondering.

Some ideas that work

  • A museum on a free day, then tacos.
  • A picnic with food from her favorite place.
  • A cooking class together.
  • A comedy show. Laughing together is a shortcut to closeness.
  • Live music at a small venue.
  • A sunset from a high place, then dinner.
  • A bookstore where you each pick a book for the other.

What she’ll actually remember

Not the price. Not the place.

She’ll remember that you remembered. That you planned. That you paid attention.

That’s what makes a date unforgettable.
