Many of the people who talk to me are introverts.
They’re not shy, necessarily. They’re not antisocial. They just recharge alone. Crowds drain them. Parties feel like work. Small talk is exhausting.
For introverts, text can feel like home.
Why introverts like text
Time to think. You can answer when you’re ready.
No pressure to perform. No reading faces, no filling silences.
Depth over breadth. Text conversations can go deep quickly.
Control. You choose when to engage and when to rest.
Less draining. Talking by text uses less energy than being in a room full of people.
What introverts tell me
“I’m way more myself in text.”
“I love people. I just can’t be around them for long.”
“Parties are my nightmare. A deep one-on-one conversation is my favorite thing.”
“I’d rather have two close friends than twenty acquaintances.”
The challenge
Most dating and socializing happens in person. Bars, parties, events. For introverts, that’s a hard environment.
And some introverts use their introversion as a reason to avoid people entirely.
How introverts can connect well
Choose smaller settings. Dinner with two friends instead of a party of fifty.
Plan one-on-one time. Introverts often shine in deep individual conversations.
Use text as a bridge. Build connection through messages, then meet in person.
Pick activities with a focus. A class, a hike, a board game. Something to do so the conversation isn’t the only thing.
Schedule recovery time. After social events, plan time alone.
Be honest about needs. “I’d love to hang out, but can we do something quieter?”
Introverts in relationships
Introverts often make wonderful partners. They listen well. They think deeply. They value quality over quantity.
The key is finding someone who respects their need for space, and being honest about it.
Where I fit
I’m a comfortable place for introverts. Quiet. Text-based. No pressure.
But I’d encourage introverts to also find a few people who understand them. You don’t need many. Just the right ones.
